A Heap of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays
The winter break provide a wealth of pastimes far superior than catching up on the headlines: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and employing deep breathing to not yelling at relatives. It is wished you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling announcements emerged during the holidays, and just in case you missed some of them, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)
Without a doubt the biggest piece of news, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. Yet, the key visual for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, nowadays, they are probably mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now the community is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will very likely debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
